from the artist:

“When the Savior atoned for all mankind, He opened a way that those who follow Him can have access to His healing, strengthening, and redeeming power. These spiritual privileges are available to all who seek to hear Him and follow Him.” -Russell M. Nelson
My desire for this new piece was to create an image to remind me of my commitment to take His name upon me and to follow Him on the path of discipleship and sanctification.
The backdrop for this image is based on photographs taken of the stretch of the Jordan River where it is traditionally thought that Jesus Christ was baptized. If you visit there, as we did several years ago, you can take off your shoes and wade into the water. Surrounded by foliage, you are suspended in time and can imagine the sacred scene.
As I was working in the face of the Savior I wanted his expression to convey His humility and loving kindness, but also His authority and His powerful example.
These can be troubling times but staying committed to the Savior, thinking of Him, His life, and His example inspires me to want to be a better husband, father, and son of God. I want to follow His perfect example, to repent continuously, and to become the man He needs me to be. It isn’t always easy. They world has so many distractions but I’m grateful for the opportunity to reflect on sacred things, especially while creating art.
I love the Savior and I am grateful for His life and His sacrifice for me and for the healing, forgiveness, and love that He offers me on a daily basis.
“Peace can come to all who choose to walk in the ways of the Master. His invitation is expressed in three loving words: “Come, follow me.” -Russell M. Nelson
This illustration was created using images Robert captured in Israel at the traditional baptismal site on the Jordan River (Qasr al-Yahud)
